As part of our commitment to a positive, safe, and respectful school environment, we want to share some information with families and ask for your continued partnership in reinforcing expectations across Grades 3–6.
At school, expectations require that students:
Use language and actions that are safe, respectful, and inclusive
Refrain from symbols, language, or behavior that threatens, excludes, or harms others
Keep hands, bodies, and materials to themselves to ensure physical safety
The following is not appropriate for a school setting:
Unkind or hurtful language
Racist language or slurs
Physical aggression
Inappropriate drawings, language or conversations
Proactive Supports in Place
In addition to addressing individual incidents, we are reinforcing expectations through proactive, schoolwide supports, including:
Ongoing reinforcement through our Caught Being Kind initiative
Administrative lessons focused on respectful language, inclusion, and appropriate behavior across school settings
Classroom-based reinforcement of schoolwide expectations
How Families Can Support at Home
Families can support this work by:
Talking with children about school-appropriate language and behavior
Reinforcing that comments, drawings, or jokes that may seem acceptable elsewhere are not appropriate in a school environment
Encouraging students to report concerns to a trusted adult rather than responding impulsively
By working together and maintaining consistent expectations, we can ensure that Granville Elementary remains a safe, respectful, and supportive place for all learners.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
