Granville Elementary in the Fall

Principal Ten Eyck

Dear GES Families,

Thank you for everything you do to keep our school running smoothly and for getting our students to school on time, every day. We appreciate your efforts.

We are at the half-way mark and second quarter report cards will be going home soon.

Now is a great time to praise your students if they made steady progress and check in with your teachers if you think your student needs extra help at home or at school. We are always glad to work with you.

There is a page on the website with lots of resources to help your student do well in and out of school.

Whether that's helping behaviors, parenting, to help with academics and more.

Please have a visit of this page for ideas.

Wishing you a safe and warm weekend,

Ms. Ten Eyck

Principal, Granville Elementary School

NYS State Testing

FEBRUARY TEST PRACTICE

This year, Grade 3 students will participate in a New York State testing simulation to help them feel comfortable and confident with the testing environment. The simulation allows students to:

Build confidence and stamina

This is not graded and is used solely as preparation.

Start Time: 8:15 AM

Length: Approximately 40 minutes once the session begins

School Day: This is a regular full school day

I-Ready

All students in Grades 3–6 have begun participating in the second i-Ready diagnostic. i-Ready provides valuable information about student learning in reading and math. PTO Staff Member of the Month

December and January are incredibly busy at school. Ms. Ten Eyck made time to nominate a staff member of the month on behalf of the PTO.

Please help us celebrate Second Grade Teacher, Mrs. Beach!

"I am proud to nominate Katie Beach for Staff Member of the Month because she exemplifies the heart and dedication of a true lifelong educator.

Mrs. Beach is an exceptional communicator who works tirelessly to foster deep, positive relationships with both her 3rd-grade students, families, and colleagues.

Her commitment to student well-being is visible daily; I often see her checking in with students first thing in the morning or quietly pulling a child aside before lunch, recess, or specials to ensure they are doing okay and feel supported.

Beyond her social-emotional impact, Katie is a dedicated professional who consistently leans into district learning opportunities, eagerly trying new instructional strategies to ensure she is meeting the diverse needs of every learner in her care."

- Principal Ten Eyck

Mrs. Beach received a beautiful slate frame and gift card to Indulge Pizza from the PTO.

Caught Being Kind

Principal Ten Eyck's Caught Being Kind incentive program has begun!

When students are acknowledged for extra special kind, respectful behavior to their peers and others, they receive a Kindness Ticket.

The student will bring their tickets to the office to drop them off into our official Kindness Box.

Students can earn many tickets!

At the upcoming PBIS Assembly, the staff will draw three news to win Roblox Gift Cards.

Principal Ten Eyck's Tips

As part of our commitment to a positive, safe, and respectful school environment, we want to share some information with families and ask for your continued partnership in reinforcing expectations across Grades 3–6.

At school, expectations require that students:

Use language and actions that are safe, respectful, and inclusive

Refrain from symbols, language, or behavior that threatens, excludes, or harms others

Keep hands, bodies, and materials to themselves to ensure physical safety

The following is not appropriate for a school setting:

Unkind or hurtful language

Racist language or slurs

Physical aggression

Inappropriate drawings, language or conversations

Proactive Supports in Place

In addition to addressing individual incidents, we are reinforcing expectations through proactive, schoolwide supports, including:

Ongoing reinforcement through our Caught Being Kind initiative

Administrative lessons focused on respectful language, inclusion, and appropriate behavior across school settings

Classroom-based reinforcement of schoolwide expectations

How Families Can Support at Home

Families can support this work by:

Talking with children about school-appropriate language and behavior

Reinforcing that comments, drawings, or jokes that may seem acceptable elsewhere are not appropriate in a school environment

Encouraging students to report concerns to a trusted adult rather than responding impulsively

By working together and maintaining consistent expectations, we can ensure that Granville Elementary remains a safe, respectful, and supportive place for all learners.

Thank you for your continued partnership.

Principal Ten Eyck
