Dear GES Community,

I hope this newsletter finds you well as we move toward the middle of October. We’ve had a busy and successful couple of weeks, and I have a few important updates and reminders to share with you all.

Picture Day Success & Make-up Dates

I want to start with a huge thank you! Our recent Picture Day was a fantastic success, and I deeply appreciate everyone's cooperation in making the day run so smoothly. A special shout-out goes to our incredible PTO volunteers—thank you for giving your time and energy to help coordinate the students!

For any students who were absent or need a retake, we have a scheduled Make-up Picture Day on December 2nd.

Experiential Learning and Safety This Week

We have some exciting and important activities coming up this week that focus on both educational experiences and crucial safety awareness:

Our 3rd Graders are gearing up for a wonderful trip to Elms Family Farm! This educational outing is a great way for them to connect what they learn in the classroom with real-world agriculture and nature. Please make sure your 3rd graders are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Additionally, our 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students will be having special visitors from the Granville Fire Department. They will be spending time reminding and educating our older students on vital fire safety practices. This annual visit is an invaluable opportunity for our students to learn life-saving tips directly from our community's first responders.

Special Event Next Week: Jared Campbell!

To help drive home the power of being kind, we have a very special, powerful event scheduled for next week!

On Monday, 10/20, from roughly 9:25–10:05 AM, our students will be loading buses and heading to MJT for a special visit from singer/songwriter, Jared Campbell! Jared is an incredible musician who focuses on creating songs to promote the power of kindness, making good choices, and embracing individuality. It promises to be an engaging and inspiring experience for all our kids.

I encourage you to learn more about his powerful message and even watch a few of his videos with your student on YouTube ahead of time.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership.

Warmly,

Principal Ten Eyck's Tips

Prioritizing Kindness and Respect Across Our Community

The values we hold dear at GES are being Kind, Safe, Responsible, and Respectful.

These aren't just student values; they are community values that must be upheld by all of us—students, staff, and parents—in every setting.

Please also remember, our teachers and staff deserve to be treated with the same respect we expect for our students.

Engaging in disrespectful, rude, or unprofessional conversations with staff members—whether in person, on the phone, or via email—is against our community values.

October is Bullying Prevention Month

Speaking of values, it’s important that we all use the same definition of bullying: Bullying is repeated, aggressive behavior intended to harm or intimidate.

A one-time conflict, disagreement, or mistake between children is not considered bullying, though we will always help students resolve these issues.

We are working hard to teach all students the skills to manage conflict and be kind classmates.

Help Us Create a Respectful Environment

We all have the same goal - supporting your student. We can only achieve this when we work together in a kind and civil partnership.

Please help us uphold a professional and respectful environment for everyone who steps onto our campus.

Let's work together to ensure that GES remains a wonderful place for every student to learn and thrive.

Thank you,
Principal Ten Eyck

4th Grade Fun

Ms Law/Ms McNamara's 4th grade class learned about weeding, and putting the garden to rest for the winter for a Science.

While weeding they found a green bean pod and a grape tomato. These were from volunteer plants from a year and a half ago!

They dried the bean seeds and after a couple of days, Ms Law planted a seed in each of two reusable cups.

The tomato was sliced and laid on soil in a cup with seeds showing, and soon a layer of soil was added to cover the tomato slice.

There are now two bean plants and about five tomato plants growing from reusing found plants!
