Granville Elementary in the Fall

Principal Ten Eyck

Dear GES Families,

This week was full of great achievements and engaging activities across the grades!

Veterans Day Ceremony: Our 4th-grade students did a wonderful job with the Veterans Day ceremony. Thank you to everyone who supported this important event.

Book Presentation: The 6th grade showed fantastic initiative! As part of a mentorship project, they not only presented books to the 4th-grade class but also designed and led interactive games based on the books to share their stories in a fun way. See pictures in this issue.

Physical Education: Students in PE are working hard to develop their volleyball skills this week!

5th Grade Science: 5th-grade students explored shadows this week and participated in awesome project-based learning, constructing models of a wigwam, longhouse, and wampum to understand the daily life of Woodland Native Peoples.

3rd Grade: 3rd-grade students have been busy strengthening their foundational reading skills this week, focusing on phonics and decoding multisyllabic words. They are also deepening their reading comprehension by learning to identify and describe crucial story elements like character traits, motivations, setting, problem, and solution.

Yearbook Club: Yearbook Club will officially be starting next month! Yearbook Club sign-up forms in mailboxes went home with the 6th grade students. We are asking that forms be returned by Wednesday, November 19th.

Reminder: As it gets colder outside, please make sure to send your child with appropriate attire (coats, hats, gloves, etc.) so they can enjoy playing outside during recess.

Wishing you a good weekend,

Ms. Ten Eyck

6th Grade Creative Book Reports

6th grade book reports are fun and interesting!

Mrs. Halnon’s 6th grade English classes created fun, interesting and totally unique book reports and presented them to the younger grades.

From character interviews, to redesigning book covers to literature based games, students spent time sharing their book and book presentations with younger students and it was a hit. All the students were all engaged!

Did you know that reading books at home can improve your child’s reading skills and ability to understand new words in just a matter of weeks? Try 10 minutes each day and work up to 20 minutes of daily reading. Make it fun. Visit the library and try new books at no cost once or twice per month. Keep trying until you find a genre of books that speak to your child (and don’t forget to include yourself). Go Horde!

Principal Ten Eyck's Tips

The values we hold dear at GES are being Kind, Safe, Responsible, and Respectful.

These aren't just student values; they are community values that must be upheld by all of us—students, staff, and parents—in every setting.

Please also remember, our teachers and staff deserve to be treated with the same respect we expect for our students.

We all have the same goal - supporting your student. We can only achieve this when we work together in a kind and civil partnership.

Please help us uphold a professional and respectful environment for everyone who steps onto our campus.

Let's work together to ensure that GES remains a wonderful place for every student to learn and thrive.

Thank you,
Principal Ten Eyck
