Sports Updates

Lady Horde Wrestling

If you see Granville-Whitehall's Jaymie Landon around this week, just call her the Queen Bison.

Landon claimed the championship in the 152 weight class Sunday at the Queen Bison Invitational at Shaker High School.

Landon went 5-0 at the event and defeated Kiara Richard of Shaker 12-2 by technical fall in the title match.

Lady Horde Champion Wrestler, Jaymie Landon won the Queen Bison title this past week. Wish her congrats!

Boys Varsity Basketball

Granville is the hottest team in the league since beginning the season 0-5.

The Golden Horde have won nine of ten since and can clinch a playoff spot by winning the rest of their games.

Granville closes the season with Warrensburg, Hartford, and Hadley-Luzerne.

Win all three and they are in, and if Whitehall loses to Corinth the Golden Horde can grab the No. 3 spot.

Staff Highlight

Granville High School English Teacher Mr. Lambert has taken the helm of Student Council and it's back in action.

Student Council is a student government organization made up of two student representatives per 9-12 grade.

This year they are planning a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast in May, a fun intramural Powder Puff Football game in June and leading a "Bookraiser" for Project: Cameron's Story, an organization dedicated to giving a brand new, quality children's book to families with babies in the Neonatal Unit at local hospitals.

Watch a short reel from Student Council on our Facebook page here. Thank you Gracie and Peighton for creating this excellent video!

To donate a book to Project: Cameron's Story, learn more about the organization and purchase from the Amazon Wishlist here, in the District Calendar.

Career Planning

Grades 7-12 is an important time to start talking about what happens after high school with your student.

Granville CSD has many ways to support your student with future planning.

In 7th grade and 8th grade, your guidance counselor will help you and your student decide what career and education pathway your student would like to be on in 9-12 grades. Counselors work with families to choose student classes for 8th grade.

In 9th Grade we have a free TRIO Upward Bound program to mentor your student through high school (8th grade families, be ready to apply early in the 9th grade school year.)

We have 17 professional trade training programs through BOCES that lead to good jobs.

We have Early College and Career Academy (ECCA) and P-TECH for 11th and 12th grades.

We have Syracuse University Advance Project (SUPA) classes that allow your student to gain college credit while in high school. A huge savings!

We have local, state and national scholarships for all kinds of programs - from the trades, to local workforce, to college. Check out this free 2-year to 5-year college-tuition scholarship for NYS families earning under 125K.

Did you know that Vermont students who graduate from Granville can also receive in-state SUNY tuition?

It all starts with getting to school on time and being curious about the opportunities available, while you're in school.

Talk to your guidance counselor to discuss how to get started.
