This Week's Updates
Granville Jr/Sr High

Great things are happening at Granville Jr/Sr High!

Principal Nassivera
Principal Nassivera

Hello Families and Students,

A few updates from the week...

1) Mr. Best and Mr. Batty have been working with some of our special education students. Today they wrapped up their learning unit with a group breakfast at the Pine Grove Diner in Granville.

2) Officer Gallagher has been presenting in Miss Comstock's Government classes. He discussed the 4th and 5th amendments as a retired police officer and explaining these to students.

3) Most of the seniors participated in setting up the clothing drive at Mettawee School today, helping prepare for the Annual Share the Warmth Clothing Giveaway this weekend (10/11 and 10/12 9am - 2pm) with the guidance of Mrs. Bunker, Mrs. Shaw, and Mr. Cosey.

4) I've created a Jr/Sr High Room in the Granville CSD App. Here's how to join.

As a reminder, no school on Monday, in observance of Columbus Day.

Have a good weekend,
Mr. Nassivera

Ski and Snowboard Club Updates

ski and snowboard club

We are excited that we are able to do the Ski & Snowboard Club again this year.

Winter is coming!

Ski & Snowboard Club does have a fee, but we do have a scholarship/reimbursement program if you qualify. Ask Mrs. Zinn about this: azinn@granvillecsd.org

You do not need to know how to ski! Lessons are available on the mountain and co-Advisor and parent Drew Rozell can offer pointers.

This is a great way for students to meet other students as grades 7 - 12 are welcome.

Mountain Registration

Club Participants will have to register themselves on West Mountain’s Website:

https://westmountain.com/after-school-programs/

We do recommend the meal plan. (Or prepare to pack a meal as they are hungry!)

After you are registered, new club members receive $100 to spend on apparel.

Wednesdays

Our day of the week will be Wednesdays this year starting January 7th until February 11th. We will leave around 3:00 pm and return around 8:30 pm.

Important Dates:

10/15/25 - First price jump deadline

11/15/25 - Second price jump

12/15/25 - Final Deadline to sign up

End of February / Beginning of March – PICO Field Trip - Experience a New Mountain

If you are interested in joining the club please feel free to email Mrs Zinn.

Ms. Cahan's Large Animal Science Class

Mac and Cheese Challenge

Mac and Cheese judges

The large animal science class made a variety of mac and cheese recipes and group presentations for "official" judging.

Students worked together to create a unique recipe and present their findings.

Our judges, from left to right: Superintendent Hall, Ms. Cahan and School Counselor, Mrs. Rueckert

It was a tough job, but someone had to do it!

Career Planning

Grades 7-12 is an important time to start talking about what happens after high school with your student.

In 8th grade, families can apply for P-TECH, a free program that begins in 9th grade and leads to a FREE two-year college degree in one of two in-demand technology careers: Advanced Manufacturing or Computer Networking and Cybersecurity.

In 9th Grade, families who qualify can apply for the FREE TRIO Upward Bound program to mentor your student through high school (be ready to apply early in the 9th grade school year.) This program's federal funding has been cancelled as per 9/30/25. Here is the link to read the SUNY ADK update.

In 10th grade, students can apply for BOCES which offers FREE 17 professional trade training programs that lead to good paying, in-demand jobs.

Students can take college level classes and we have FREE Early College and Career Academy (ECCA) to earn a two-year college degree in a variety of programs -- all while in high school.

We have Syracuse University Advance Project (SUPA) classes to gain college credit while in high school. A huge savings!

Funding Vocational School and College

Check out this free 2-year to 5-year college-tuition scholarship for NYS families earning under 125K. Guidance has the latest information about Scholarships, apprenticeships, college and more.

Vermont students who graduate from Granville can also receive in-state SUNY tuition.

It all starts with getting to school on time and being curious about the opportunities available, while you're in school.

Talk to your guidance counselor to discuss how to get started.
