This Week's Updates
Granville Jr/Sr High rainbow in winter

Great things are happening at Granville Jr/Sr High!

Here are a few updates...

The Senior High Winter Concert was a success! Check out our Facebook Page celebrations for snippets of the concert and other good news and share posts with our community. Here is the link to our Facebook Page.

Our indoor walking program will be on hiatus during the holiday recess. Doors reopen again for daily walking 4pm - 9pm on January 6th, while school is in session.

Our winter sports teams will be playing during the holiday recess. Come watch a game with your family. It's free, fun and you don't have to have a student in the game to cheer on our teams. Here is the link to the game schedule to select a game to attend.

PTO sponsored bowling begins this Saturday at Slate Valley Lanes. Here is the link to the details.

Our Junior-High math teachers would like families to encourage their students to please bring in pencils to school as students magically lose pencils each day. We suggest a box of pencils as a stocking stuffer.

Here is the link to the District Calendar for all upcoming events (except sports, which has it's own calendar that is shared among Washington County schools.)

Rest up and see you January 6th,

Sports Updates

Golden Horde Defeat Salem

"It was a big night for new Granville girls basketball coach Keith Beattie. Beattie’s Golden Horde defeated his alma mater and the team he used to coach 45-29 in an Adirondack League matchup.

Ella Olsen led Granville with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Melanie Fisher also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Horde.

Sophia Keays led Salem with nine points.

Granville improved to 1-1, 2-3. Salem drops to 0-1, 2-3."

Winter Sport Families - With the exception of wrestling, all teams are using Parent Rooms in the Granville CSD app to communicate.

To access, Rooms, open the Granville CSD app and toggle to "Rooms" in the lower right-hand corner. If you need help, contact krozell@granvillecsd.org or visit this page.

Coach grades 7-12 - We are looking ahead to spring sports. If you would like to become certified NYS sports coach, it's great to get a head start as it does take some time to take the trainings. Contact Gabby Hunt at ghunt@granvillecsd.org

Staff Highlight

Our staff have been busy getting into the winter holiday spirit.

Some played Secret Santa and met for an early morning holiday breakfast on Thursday to disclose their identities after offering little gifts throughout the week to their giftee.

The door decorating contest had some serious contenders with teachers and students working together to compete. We can certainly say, a sense of humor is alive and well at the Jr/Sr High! Here is a link to a short Facebook Page video of the decorated doors.

The Senior High Chorus went on a Caroling trip to MJT and GES Friday morning too!

And Principal Duell treated staff to fresh bagels on Friday morning. Yum!

Career Planning

Grades 7-12 is an important time to start talking about what happens after high school with your student.

Granville CSD has many ways to support your student with future planning.

In 7th grade and 8th grade, your guidance counselor will help you and your student decide what career and education pathway your student would like to be on in 9-12 grades.

In 9th Grade we have TRIO Upward Bound (7th and 8th grade families, be ready to apply early in the 9th grade school year.)

We have 17 professional trade training programs through BOCES.

We have Early College and Career Academy (ECCA) and P-TECH for 11th and 12th grades (Start getting ready in 9th and 10th grade!)

We have Syracuse University Advance Project (SUPA) classes that allow your student to gain college credit while in high school. A huge savings!

We have local, state and national scholarships for all kinds of programs - from the trades, to local workforce, to college. Check out this free 2-year to 5-year college-tuition scholarship for NYS families earning under 125K.

Did you know that Vermont students who graduate from Granville can also receive in-state SUNY tuition?

It all starts with getting to school on time and being curious about the opportunities available, while you're in school.

Talk to your guidance counselor to discuss how to get started.
