Great Things Are Happening at Granville Jr/Sr High!

 
 

Upcoming Events

February 

Every Thursday - Food, Friends and Fun! - FREE Afterschool Community Resource - Food, Fun and Friends at St. Mary's in Granville for GES and Jr/Sr High students 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM - Come have a meal, do homework, play board games, and hang out. 

Spring Sports Registration on Aktivate Open. Visit the Athletics page for signing in to select a spring sport for your student (if you already have an account) or register for an account if you have not used it before. All sport paperwork is now done through Aktivate. 

PTO Winter Restock of the Jr/Sr High Care Closet - Here is the link to participate in the restock.

2/14 - 2/22 - PTO Sponsored Bowling at Slate Valley Lanes - $5 for two games and shoe rental, PTO pays the rest. 

2/16 - 2/20 - NO SCHOOL: Mid-Winter Recess

2/17 - Open Gym for Girls Volleyball Grades 7 - 12, 3pm

2/24 - Community Resource: Free Parenting Class from the Comfort of Your Own Home

2/27- 7th and 8th Grade Dance, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM. $5 at the door. Disco theme. 

2/27 - Free PTO Sponsored Magic Show for All Students and Families. Pre-registration required as seats are limited. 6 PM, Jr/Sr High Auditorium. Doors open 5:45 PM. Here is the link to let us know you're attending.

March 

3/2 - Last Day to register a class or student for the PTO sponsored Science, Technology and Art Fair that takes place on Wednesday, March 25th. Details here. Free to register and participate!

3/9 - Spring Varsity and JV sports practices start (please note, the printed wall calendar start date is incorrect)

3/9 - Board of Education Meeting

3/11 - PTO Meeting

3/12 - Spring sport parent-player-coach meeting

Do you have unused hygiene products that are like new? Drop off and donate to the PTO's Care Closet Restock at the Jr/Sr High. Drop off to the district office.
 

Financial Literacy with Mrs. Wilson

Mrs. Wilson's class on financial literacy helped two students file their first W2 tax forms from their summer jobs. The best part? Both students received a tax refund thanks to this class and Mrs. Wilson's encouragement to fill out the form. Go Horde!

Volunteer Opportunities 

After Prom Committee

After Prom is accepting donations for the After Prom fund to keep students safe on school grounds after the dance. If you would like to donate to After Prom, your time by chaperoning the event in May, your skills or a monetary gift to go towards the event, please feel free to contact granvilleafterprom@yahoo.com 

 

PTO Volunteer Sign Up Sheet

PTO Care Closet Donation 

The Jr/Sr High has a Care Closet in the Jr High Guidance office with free personal hygiene items available for students who may need to fill in the gaps. Students can stop by and shop for free anytime. Here is the link to the PTO's posting on how to join them in contributing to the care closet.

 

Team Parents Needed for Athletic Booster Club - Every Season

Team parents are needed for each sport to coordinate with the Booster Club. Find the latest meeting in the district calendar at GranvilleCSD.org/events or email GranvilleHordeBoosterClubNY@gmail.com. Join their Facebook page here.

Jazz Band at MJT and GES 

Little kids like jazz too! That was the word at MJT today when the high school jazz band visited.

Ski and Snowboard Club at West Mountain

The Ski and Snowboard Club is having fun despite the freezing temperatures. Here are some of the members pictured below. 

Join the club next year and if you're new to skiing sign up for a lesson or two at West Mountain as part of your package. 

The club and other schools in the area fill the mountain each Wednesday for food and outdoor fun. Lots of socializing, outdoor time and making new friends across the grades.

Grades 7-12 is an important time to start talking about what happens after high school with your student.

Showing Up Matters

Thank you for showing up on time, every day! We love seeing your students in school and appreciate your efforts. Here are tips to help make mornings easier. 

Here are attendance tips from GCSD: 1) Lay out clothing and pack backpacks the night before 2) Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine 3) Ask school staff for help if your child experiences anxiety 5) Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up 6) Minimize screen time at bedtime to promote restful sleep 7) Plan trips and appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
