Great things are happening at Granville Jr/Sr High!

1 ) Congratulations to Granville High School English Teacher and Varsity Baseball Coach, Cory Burton for his appointment as Dean of Students for 2025-2026 school year!

2) Spring sport sign-ups wrap up this week during P.E. classes. We have softball, baseball, track and tennis. Come learn a new sport! If you need gear to play or missed sign up, check in with Athletic Director, Ms. Gabby Hunt (ghunt@granvillecsd.org)

3) Want to become a lifeguard this summer? Free lifeguarding certification during Winter Break information in upcoming events. Must be at least 16.

4) National Honor Society is hosting a Granville's Got Talent. Details here!

5) Families, if your child needs support with school work, please see "school resources" section below for tips on how to use morning or afternoon Homework Club.

Winter break starts on Monday the 17th! Don't forget to take advantage of PTO Bowling, and some of the free reading and math apps and websites on the Community School page list of resources. If your student is feeling behind in reading, math or any other subject or just needs review, try one of those free resources. 15-20 minutes a day of reading or math (or both) is great!

Wrestling and Indoor Track at Sectionals

In their initial season as a merged program, the Granville-Whitehall wrestling team excelled at the Section II Wrestling Championships this weekend. Both the boy’s and girls’ teams had wrestlers place at their respective events.

The G-W boys finished second at the Class C championships and crowned four champions. Six wrestlers from the Hammers reached the finals.

Cobleskill claimed the team title with 217 points. G-W finished with 202 1/2 and Corinth with 175 1/2.

Nathan Barber (145), Jaxon Torres (170), Brandon Beaver (190), and CJ Monty (215) all claimed sectional titles in their weight classes for the Hammers.

At the girl’s Division II championships held on Friday [the 7th], Granville-Whitehall had one wrestler finish as the runner-up, while Salem-Cambridge rolled to the championship. Hadley-Luzerne and Warrensburg also came home with champions.

For the Hammers, Jaymie Landon finished second at 145 pounds. Landon won by fall over Runa Karle of Greenville in 17 seconds in the semifinals. Landon fell to Vivienne Myers of Cairo-Durham by fall in 2:27 in the title match.

Madelaine Wilson placed fourth at 138 for the Hammers. Gracie Hall (107) and Carriella Phillips (120) finished fifth for G-W.

Free Breakfast and Lunch - Every Day!

Come to school 15 minutes early to enjoy a warm breakfast each day to help you focus and feel good.

Homework Club - A Quiet Space and School Wi-Fi

Morning Homework Club meets every morning at 6:50; meet Mr. Hardin by Main Entrance. Afterschool Homework Club meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:20 - 3:20 in Mrs. Rath’s  Room 109. Join anytime.

Falling Behind?

If you need extra help with your school work, start attending Homework Club (pick morning or afternoon to stick with) and ask your teachers if they can meet you there when they are free. The late bus can take you home at 3:05pm, in the afternoons. (Vermonters must provide their own transportation.)

Clubs

There is a place for everyone at Granville Jr/Sr High. Sign up for a club by listening to morning announcements with details of upcoming meetings. Join anytime!

No Outside Food Deliveries

Outside food/drink deliveries create a class disruption for teachers, classrooms and custodians.

Care Closet

Our Jr/Sr High has a clothing and care closet in the Jr High Guidance Office, restocked and refreshed by the PTO. Your student can stop by anytime and shop for free to fill in the gaps.

Career Planning

Grades 7-12 is an important time to start talking about what happens after high school with your student.

Granville CSD has many ways to support your student with future planning.

Junior High

In 8th grade, families can apply for P-TECH, a free program that begins in 9th grade and leads to a FREE two-year college degree in one of two in-demand technology careers: Advanced Manufacturing or Computer Networking and Cybersecurity.

High School

In 9th Grade, families can apply for the FREE TRIO Upward Bound program to mentor your student through high school (be ready to apply early in the 9th grade school year.)

In 11th grade, we have FREE Early College and Career Academy (ECCA)that will allow students to earn a two-year college degree in a variety of programs while in high school.

BOCES offers FREE 17 professional trade training programs that lead to good paying, in-demand jobs.

We have Syracuse University Advance Project (SUPA) classes that allow your student to gain college credit while in high school. A huge savings!

Funding Vocational School and College

There are local, state and national grants and scholarships (money you do not have to give back) for all kinds of programs - from the trades, to local workforce, to college. Check out this free 2-year to 5-year college-tuition scholarship for NYS families earning under 125K. Ask Guidance for the latest Scholarships.

Vermont students who graduate from Granville can also receive in-state SUNY tuition.

It all starts with getting to school on time and being curious about the opportunities available, while you're in school.

Talk to your guidance counselor to discuss how to get started.
