Granville Jr/Sr High News
"Our students did a great job performing at the WCAMTA All County Festival last weekend, Saturday 4/26! It was nice to see students from many area schools working together to create such well prepared and entertaining performances. The 4x800 relay team (pictured left to right) Carter Powell, Chase Oakman, Noah Teer and Parker Cornwall qualified for state, as well as Tim Pratt in the 110 hurdles and Parker Cornwall in the steeplechase.
USA Luge will be holding their Slider Search event in Glens Falls on May 17&18. Below are some links with registration and event info. For families with athletes ages 10-13.

Student Joysie Velez is pictured using a microscope to complete the lab project called “It’s Alive", a required experiment in New York State's science curriculum.
Middle school students plan and execute their own investigation in which they will observe a variety of samples under the microscope.
They engage in a sorting activity that helps them learn to distinguish between living versus nonliving substances, animal cell versus plant cells and unicellular versus multicellular organisms.

Grades 7-12 is an important time to start talking about what happens after high school with your student.
In 8th grade, families can apply for P-TECH, a free program that begins in 9th grade and leads to a FREE two-year college degree in one of two in-demand technology careers: Advanced Manufacturing or Computer Networking and Cybersecurity.
In 9th Grade, families who qualify can apply for the FREE TRIO Upward Bound program to mentor your student through high school (be ready to apply early in the 9th grade school year.)
In 10th grade, students can apply for BOCES which offers FREE 17 professional trade training programs that lead to good paying, in-demand jobs.
Students can take college level classes and we have FREE Early College and Career Academy (ECCA) to earn a two-year college degree in a variety of programs -- all while in high school.
We have Syracuse University Advance Project (SUPA) classes to gain college credit while in high school. A huge savings!
Funding Vocational School and College
There are local, state and national grants and scholarships (money you do not have to give back) for all kinds of programs - from the trades, to local workforce, to college. Check out this free 2-year to 5-year college-tuition scholarship for NYS families earning under 125K. Guidance has the latest information about Scholarships, apprenticeships, college and more.
Vermont students who graduate from Granville can also receive in-state SUNY tuition.
It all starts with getting to school on time and being curious about the opportunities available, while you're in school.

5/3 - Prom Grand March at High School Gym - Bring your family to watch "the big kids" make their entrance for the Junior/Senior Prom in the High School Gym at 4:30pm. A free event open to our school and local community to cheer on our juniors and seniors attending Prom.
5/5 - 5/9 - National Teacher Appreciation Week - Consider sending in a note or email of appreciation to your teacher or a fun "teacher appreciation" drawing by your student! Staff directory is here.

5/12 - Budget Hearing - The Budget Hearing is the Public Participation and Q&A with the Board of Education about the Proposed School Budget or the Next School Year, 6pm High School Get Budget Info Here.
