Dear MJT Families,
As required by New York State Education Law, the students and staff at MJT will be practicing “Evacuation Drills” and “Lockdown Drills.”
We will begin our Spring drills next week, and will conduct these drills over the next few weeks. Each type of emergency drill is explained below:
EVACUATION DRILLS
In an “Evacuation Drill,” the school community will practice the procedure of safely leaving the building. Students will be guided to a designated safe area outside and then brought back inside once the drill is complete. These drills help us ensure that everyone can evacuate calmly and safely in an emergency.
LOCKDOWN DRILLS
The purpose of a “Lockdown Drill” is to practice keeping everyone safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During this drill, all doors inside and out of the school building will be locked and no one will be allowed to enter or leave until the drill is completed. Students and staff will remain inside locked classrooms until released by law enforcement and/or our administrative staff. Announced clearly as a drill, this exercise helps everyone practice responding safely and quietly in the event of an emergency.
As a reminder to guardians/families:
You will not be permitted to enter the building during a drill, and no phone calls to the main office will be answered during this time.
If you are dropping off a student or picking up a student while a drill is in progress, you will need to wait outside until instructed otherwise by school personnel.
After the drill, you can support your child by helping them understand why we practice and prepare by conducting drills.
Please remember that conducting these safety drills can help maintain our schools as a safe place to learn and work.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Wishing you a good weekend,
Mrs. Taylor
