Dear MJT Families,
Over the next few weeks, your student will be taking their first of 3 computer based assessments. This is done through our iReady Diagnostic program, which assesses each student’s abilities in ELA and Math.
In ELA, they are assessed on phonics, phonological awareness, vocabulary, high frequency words, and comprehension for literature and informational texts.
In Math, they are assessed on numbers and operations, algebra and algebraic thinking, measurement and data, and geometry. Students are assessed in the Fall, Winter, and Spring, and their results are used to help make instructional decisions throughout the year.
Each class is busy diving into our curriculum and daily routines. Your student’s day is filled with learning experiences, as well as social experiences. Often as a parent it can be hard to get your student to tell you about their day, aside from the usual brief answers.
Here are some ways to encourage your student to tell you about their day:
Tell me something fun you did in math today?
What special class did you have today?
What was one thing that made you feel really happy?
Tell me about the friends you played with on the playground.
We hope to see you all at our MJT Open House on Wednesday, September 24, from 6:00-7:00. You will have the opportunity to see your student’s classroom teacher, encore teachers, and to learn about the fun and exciting year ahead. This is a great opportunity to connect with the school staff as well as other families, and to learn more about how you can get involved in our Granville PTO.
Please Note: Our Lee Road loop drop off is open in the morning from 7:45-8:00. Our staff goes back inside promptly at 8:00, and no MJT students should be dropped off after that. If the Head Start bus is unloading, then MJT staff has already gone inside. Head Start cannot take MJT students inside because the second set of doors locks and they cannot access our portion of the building. If you arrive in the loop past 8:00, you must drive your student to the front of the building.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Taylor
