Dear MJT Families,

This Monday we enjoyed a special visit from singer/songwriter, Jared Campbell!  His performances were centered around an anti-bullying, kindness, and friendship message.  His energetic performance had the students excited all day!  Please see the image below if you’d like to check out his music at home.

Monday will kick off our pumpkin decorating contest!  If you wish to participate, please have your child decorate a pumpkin like their favorite story book character. The pumpkin should be a size that they can easily carry themselves.  All pumpkins will be due in the main office by Monday morning, 10/27.  They will be on display in the gym all week, and staff members will be voting on 10 winning pumpkins.  The winners will enjoy a special pizza lunch with the Principal (me!) on Monday 11/3.

Our annual Trunk-or-Treat will be on the evening of Thursday 10/30, in the GES parking lot.  I will be handing out pizza and hope to see many of you there.

Here are a few reminders for school:

  • There are NO toys from home allowed at school.  We understand that students may bring an item or so for the long bus ride, but they need to keep them in their backpacks while in the building.  The school is not responsible for lost or broken toys.

  • Beverages:  The only beverage allowed in classrooms is clear water.  If you choose to send in juice, they can have it at lunch.  Please be sure that all Dunkin drinks are finished and gotten rid of before they enter the building.  Thank you for your cooperation and attention to this matter.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Mrs. Taylor

The doors will open at 12:45 and there will be several viewing areas (gym, cafeteria, library, and courtyard if the weather permits).  Please note that this will be a standing event unless seating is requested for special circumstances.

Students cannot wear full-face masks, as we need to be able to identify who they are.  No fake weapons will be allowed.

Parents will not be permitted to go to the classroom to help get their student dressed and ready.  If comfortable, they can wear their costumes all day.

If you are picking your child up to go home after the parade, please fill out the form that went home on orange paper last week, or write a note prior to the event.  Once the parade is over, you will be instructed to go to your student’s classroom and sign them out with their teacher.

Parking will be limited.  Please carpool if at all possible.

If your student participates in the pumpkin decorating contest, you will be asked to pick it up from the gym before leaving the parade.

All event details are in the district calendar.

Fall Routines That Help Students Think Well, Do Well and Feel Well

This time of year is a great time to establish new afternoon and evening routines with your students.  The weather is starting to get chillier, and they may be spending more time indoors.

Please be mindful of how much “screen time” students are having at home (television, tablets, computers).

Excessive screen time directly links to concerns with attention, behavior, and proper sleep patterns.

Here are a few ideas to help structure their evenings in a way that promotes that ability to gain some independence with self-care skills:

  • Have a consistent place for their belongings when the enter the home

    • Hang up their jacket and backpack

    • Unpack their folder and take out any important papers

    • Put their shoes in the proper place

    • Wash their hands

    • Here is a printable afterschool routine checklist.

  • Allow for physical activity and playtime as soon as they get home

    • Go outside to play, take a walk or a bike ride, draw with sidewalk chalk, blow bubbles, collect leaves

    • Play inside with preferred toys or games.  Playdough, legos, coloring and painting are excellent ways to improve their fine motor skills in a fun and engaging way.

  • For those who have homework responsibilities

    • Be sure that these are done after there has been time to release their energy and have some fun time.  Ideally, an adult should sit with them to support and encourage these tasks.

    • Be sure that homework is done at a table, counter, or desk.  There should be minimal background noise or noise from electronics.

  • Mealtime without devices

    • Use this time to talk as a family

    • Ask students to describe what they did at centers, recess, math, P.E., etc

    • Discuss upcoming plans or family events

    • Have your student be responsible for clearing their plates into the garbage (they all do it independently here at school).

  • Create consistent bedtime routines

    • Pajamas

    • Brushing their teeth

    • Reading a story together

    • Going to bed without having a tv on, or tablet in their hand.

    • Here is a printable getting ready for bedtime checklist.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education.

Morning Arrival and Schedule

An MJT student in a pink fleece jacket stepping out of a fire truck
An MJT Student at Fire Safety Week

The MJT Lee Road AM drop off time is 7:45 am - 8:00 am only. Class starts at 8:00 am.

MJT staff go back into the building at precisely 8:00 am to start classes.

This means there are no MJT staff members available to let you student in the door after 8:00 am at the Lee Road Drop Off.

If you arrive after 8:00 am and see an orange rope up at the MJT Lee Road drop off, please drive your student to the front of the building and walk them in through the main entrance.

Please also note, you cannot leave your student with a Head Start staff member and must walk them in through the main entrance.

Please share this with any other adult who may do the morning drop off with your student.

The safety of our students is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation.

Thank you,
MJT Staff

Pick-Up Line Safety

Please help us keep our pick-up line safe.

Students should only exit and enter vehicles on the passenger side. Having children walk around cars is dangerous, so please ensure they use the curb side.

Please don’t let your student out of the vehicle until the staff is in the circle.  Once cars start moving, we would prefer the staff to be there to make sure students are safe from the traffic.

U-Turn and through traffic are not allowed in our driveways.  Please do not make a U-Turn at either end of our driveways, and cars are not allowed to pull in and drive down our driveways during dismissal, even before the buses pull in.  We often have students waiting on the sidewalk and this could pose potential safety risks.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
