MJT Fire Safety Lesson - Fall 2025

Dear School Families,

As required by law in New York State, students should be in attendance at school at least 90% of the time.

Here at MJT, we send attendance letters home when students have reached the 6, 12, or 18 day absence mark (regardless of excused vs. unexcused absences).

We recognize that this is often their first exposure to school and their early years can be challenging with illnesses and sniffles.

Receiving a letter is not necessarily cause for alarm and we encourage you to reach out to Nurse Blais or myself if you need assistance or have questions.

If we have concerns regarding your child’s attendance, we will reach out to you for further information or may ask you to come in for a meeting to see how we can be of support.

We will also contact you if we notice that your child has been tardy (late) to school on several occasions to see if we can be of help.

For students in K-2, they are marked tardy if they arrive after 8:00.

For UPK students, they are marked tardy after 8:15.

During the first week of December, we will begin making calls for students who have been excessively tardy or absent.

We truly appreciate your partnership and attention to this matter.

As a reminder, there is no school next Wednesday, 11/26 to Friday, 11/28 for the Thanksgiving break.

Wishing you a good weekend,

Mrs. Taylor
Principal, Mary J. Tanner School

Please be sure to send your student with boots, warm jacket, hat, and mittens daily.

Please label your student’s name in all of their belongings, as hats and mittens tend to go missing fast!

Principal Taylor's Tips

This time of year is a great time to establish afternoon and evening routines with your students.

Please be mindful of how much “screen time” students are having at home (television, tablets, computers).

Excessive screen time directly links to concerns with attention, behavior, and proper sleep patterns.

Here are a few ideas to help structure your student's evenings in a way that promotes that ability to gain some independence with self-care skills
