We have begun the Positivity Project (or P2 as we call it) at GES.
This program teaches positive character strengths and other people mindset. Learn more in this issue and how your family can participate at home.
A few items to note:
1) Thank you to the PTO volunteers for hosting at Book Fair at GES this week.
2) Open House on the 24th was a hit! Thank you to all the families who attended.
3) Rooms in the Granville CSD App is going strong for classroom updates from your teacher.

The Positivity Project (P2) is an organization whose mission is to empower students to build positive relationships and become their best selves (NOTE: Watch the P2 founding story video here).
Positive psychology’s 24 character strengths serve as its foundation. Ranging from bravery and perseverance to integrity and gratitude. These strengths aren’t about ignoring the negative. Instead, they help us overcome life’s inevitable adversities.
GES has started the Positivity Project (P2) this week, replacing the PBIS program with fresh new ideas.
At school, P2 teaches 24 character strengths and the Other People Mindset with short, daily lessons.
P2 for Families gives you a once-a-week, 5–10 minute at-home touchpoint: 1 quote, 1 short video, and 3 conversation prompts, by grade.
The conversation prompts can be done in the car, at drop off or pick up, before bed or while doing an errand, in the grocery line or over dinner.
Over time, families and school develop a shared vocabulary (e.g., gratitude, perseverance, fairness) that strengthens relationships and helps kids thrive. Today students were recognized for two character traits - curiosity and teamwork. (See photos below.)

We are asking for your support with personal toys and novelty items being brought to school. Beginning immediately, students should not bring toys or non-educational items from home to school.
This includes, but is not limited to:
NeeDohs and other squishy toys Squishies and novelty fidgets Stuffed animals Toy figures and collectibles
Trading cards Small toys or gadgets Electronic toys or games Or other personal items that may become a distraction during the school day.
While we understand that these items can be enjoyable and comforting to students, they can also become disruptive during instruction and may lead to students playing, trading, or arguing over items. We also want to avoid personal belongings becoming lost or misplaced at school.
This expectation does not apply to sensory tools or other items that are specifically identified as a necessary support for an individual student through an IEP or 504 Plan that is already in pace.

Free! St. Mary's Food, Fun and Friends Every Thursday while school is in session, a group of volunteers from St. Mary's Church of Granville lead an informal afterschool program in the GES cafeteria.
They provide a snack, play board games, offer crafts and light homework help.
Thursdays at GES, 2:15 PM - 5:00 PM (parent pick-up required)

PTO Afterschool Community Campaign |
Monthly - Check the live school calendar on the school website or in the school App once per month and jot down important dates and events in your family calendar.
Weekly - Double-check the live school calendar each weekend for updates and new opportunities.
Daily - Post your family's weekly schedule of school, work and appointments in your home to view and check daily. A whiteboard, repurposed chalkboard or piece of paper works! Or go digital with a free shared family calendar App. Link: Live School Calendar |
Reading Makes the Difference! |
Did you know that helping your student read just 10 minutes on most days helps students solve problems and learn more easily in all their subjects?
Tip 1: Try the a free reading App! Khan Academy App (opens to Khan Academy website) or Duolingo ABC App (opens to Duolingo ABCE website) with your children. No ads, always free, and learning is through kid-friendly video games. If have an older student who struggles with reading, this works great too.
Tip 2: Visit the Pember Library in Granville! Get a free library card and check out a small stack of books once a month and try reading with your student. Keep the books by the door or in a special "library tote bag" to easily return next month and make it a new routine.
Tip 3: Think Connection, Not Perfection! Next time you open a book together with your student, whether it's a library book or a free digital story on UniteForLiteracy.com—don't sweat the new words. If you or your kid get stuck, just laugh it off, sound it out together, or look at the pictures to guess. It’s about the connection, not perfection.
