Music Students

3 music students standing with their instruments

Three of our music students have been selected for the NYSSMA Zone 7 Area All State Festival taking place the first Saturday of November at Proctor's Theater!

The performance groups are composed of the top music students from 8 surrounding counties.

In order to be selected, music students must perform a Level 6 (highest level) solo at the annual NYSSMA Solo Festival.

These students were evaluated on their solo performance this past spring, and were selected based on their high scores.

Ben Porcello, Grade 11, Trumpet

Kaiden Dupuis, Grade 11, Trumpet

Both will perform with the AAS Wind Ensemble.

Conor Thomas, Grade 10, Trombone

Conor completed an extra step by also playing the highest possible level jazz solo and was selected as Trombone 2 for the AAS Jazz Ensemble. To add perspective, there are four trombone parts in the jazz ensemble and only one person is assigned to each part.

It's an incredible feat for a sophomore to be placed 2nd chair in this highly competitive group!

In addition to this great news for Granville, we have had multiple other Vocal and Jazz students selected for the WCAMTA All County Chorus and Jazz Festival in November.

Way to go Team Horde!

Thank you to Mrs. Stout for the update.

3 Tips for Families

Try These 3 Family Routines

Monthly
- Check the live school calendar on the school website or in the school App once per month and jot down important dates and events in your family calendar.

Weekly - Double-check the live school calendar each weekend for updates and new opportunities.

Daily - Post your family's weekly schedule of school, work and appointments in your home to view and check daily. A whiteboard, repurposed chalkboard or piece of paper works! Or go digital with a free shared family calendar App.

3 Tips for Students

1) Check Your "Granville Bookmarks" Weekly

Your Chromebook navigation bar has a "Granville Bookmarks" folder in the top-left corner. It’s your all-in-one spot for Gmail, Google Classroom, eSchool, homework calendars, and game schedules. Set a recurring weekend reminder on your phone to check it so you're always ready for the week ahead!

2) Make a "School" Folder on Your Phone

Keep your links handy even when you don't have your Chromebook. Open your favorite school sites (like eSchool) in your phone browser, tap your menu options, and select "Add to Home Screen." Then, drag those app shortcuts on top of each other to form a folder and name it "School."

3) Pick ONE Way to Track Your Assignments

Don't rely on memory alone. Find a single reminder system that works for your brain! Here are a few easy options to try:

Paper Planner or Notebook: Grab a free planner from the Jr. High Guidance office, or use a dedicated notebook just for due dates.

Binder Section: Set aside one front folder pocket in your daily binder for active assignment lists.

Digital Tools: Use Google Calendar, Google Tasks, or a free phone notes app to log due dates as soon as you get them. Here is the link to a free homework tractor.
